I met Humphrey at Coventry poly 1976 - 1980, and kept in touch after leaving. He came to my wedding in 1986 where he managed to entertain everyone by stepping in to play the piano in the dark during an unexpected power cut! He just sat and played - amazing. Humphrey was different to other lecturers in a special way.. I couldn't wait for genetics lectures from him,they were class, and I could listen to stories of Antartica for hours.
